The Word That Started It All
The Kartoffel Incident:
It all started when Glaiza saw a funny German video about potatoes. The word "Kartoffel" sounded SO hilarious to her that she couldn't stop repeating it. Now she randomly shouts "KARTOFFEEEEELLLL!" at Patrick at the most unexpected moments - while cooking, while walking, while he's on a video call...
Patrick doesn't know whether to laugh or hide. But honestly, it's the cutest thing ever, and it shows that learning a language is most fun when you find words that just make you smile!

"Kartoffel" = Potato in German. But in the Mahalventures household, it means love and chaos.
Working towards official language certificate!
Today I learned "Schmetterling" (butterfly). WHY IS IT SO LONG? In Tagalog we just say "paruparo." German words are like trains - they just keep going and going. Patrick laughed for 5 minutes at my pronunciation. SCHMETTER... SCHMETTEL... SHMETALINK... I give up for today. KARTOFFEL is still easier.
Patrick taught me "Ich liebe dich" (I love you). I already knew this one but I pretended I didn't so he would say it to me 10 times. Smart Filipina strategy! He also taught me "Entschuldigung" (excuse me/sorry) and I think I pulled a tongue muscle trying to say it.
Learned numbers today! Eins, zwei, drei... okay until zehn (10). But then Patrick said "einundzwanzig" for 21 and I was like... you Germans just GLUE words together, don't you? In Tagalog it's "dalawampu't isa" - also long, but at least it doesn't sound like a sneeze.
THE KARTOFFEL INCIDENT! I found a video of a German kid saying "Kartoffel" in the funniest way. Now I can't stop saying it. Patrick is already regretting teaching me German. KARTOFFEEEEELLLL! This is my new favorite word. Sorry not sorry, Mahal!
